Hope everyone had a great weekend. I've officially recovered from the shock -- or, more appropriately, the annoyance of hearing everyone call it a shock -- of seeing Mel go. Now, I'm ready to kiss this season goodbye on Wednesday.
Can't wait to see Sanjaya's ponyhawk, Phil's cancer patient hat and Gina's controversial tongue ring again. Oh, and I guess we're going to have to name a winner, too. Blake or Jordin? Jordin or Blake? I'll be posting regular updates as the showdown approaches, beginning with this week-by-week recap of each of their song choices. It's long, but a necessary refresher. Here we go, starting with week one of the semifinals:
Semifinal No. 1: Contestants' choice
Blake: "Somewhere Only We Know"
Jordin: "Give Me One Reason"
Winner: Blake...this week marked the debut of his originality, even sans beatboxing
Semifinal No. 2: Contestants' choice
Blake: "Virtual Insanity"
Jordin: "Reflection"
Winner: Blake, hands down. Jordin was cliche this week and I even picked her to go home.
Semifinal No. 3: Contestants' choice
Blake: "All Mixed Up"
Jordin: "Heartbreaker"
Winner: Jordin...for stepping out of her comfort zone and rocking out. On key.
Final No. 1: Diana Ross
Blake: "You Keep Me Hanging On"
Jordin: "If We Hold on Together"
Winner: Jordin...sure, her "Land Before Time" theme was corny, but I liked it over Blake's attempt to mess with a motown classic.
Final No. 2: British Invasion
Blake: "Time of the Season"
Jordin: "I (Who Have Nothing)"
Winner: Blake...just because I loved hearing him say "who's your daddy?"
Final No. 3: Pop
Blake: "Love Song"
Jordin: "Hey Baby"
Winner: Neither was especially memorable, but I'll give it to Jordin for taking a risk.
Final No. 4: Classics
Blake: "Mack the Knife"
Jordin: "On a Clear Day"
Winner: Again, kind of a draw...but Blake takes it over Jordin's feel-good corniness
Final No. 5: Latin Week
Blake: "I Need to Know"
Jordin: "Rhythm is Gonna Get You"
Winner: Blake, no contest...remember Jordin's ugly black mom pants?
Final No. 6: Country
Blake: "When the Stars Go Blue"
Jordin: "A Broken Wing"
Winner: Jordin...this week landed Blake in the bottom three.
Final No. 7: Inspirational songs
Blake: "Imagine"
Jordin: "You'll Never Walk Alone"
Winner: A slight draw, since Blake was unoriginal and Jordin was screechy. I go with Jordin.
Final No. 8: Bon Jovi
Blake: "You Give Love a Bad Name"
Jordin: "Livin' on a Prayer"
Winner: Blake, overwhelmingly. Arguably Blake's best week and Jordin's worst.
Final No. 9: Bee Gees
Blake: "You Should be Dancing," "This is Where I Came In."
Jordin: "To Love Somebody," "Woman in Love"
Winner: Jordin, this is the week when Blake's beatboxing took a downward spiral.
Final No. 10: Judges' choice, producers' choice, contestant's choice
Blake: "Roxanne," "This Love," "When I Get You Alone"
Jordin: "Wishing on a Star," "She Works Hard for the Money," "I (Who Have Nothing)"
Winner: Blake, since Jordin was comparatively predictable and unoriginal
Final score puts Blake ahead by one win. Looks like I'm a Blaker girl. Where do you stand?
