idol gets emotional

8:10 We meet JP from Auburn, who auditioned in season 4 and sat two seats ahead of Carrie Underwood. Whatever. I didn't meet him in Atlanta, either.

This could go either way, but it turns out very badly. He totally messes up Rascal Flatts. It sounds like he has a cold, but that's his real voice. He's also a music major.

Simon: "My pen has more charisma." Three-way no, even with Paula's diplomacy.

8:12 Segment about Paula. Seacrest prefaces, "Paula is a girl who just can't say no." Unless it involves lip synching, as we learned at Sunday's Super Bowl performance.

8:14 Time for Asia'h, a self-proclaimed "small-town country girl" whose dad died in a car accident just before she called to tell him she made it on AI. Ouch. That was a harsh one.

She pulls out some Leann Rimes, "How Do I Live," naturally in her father's honor, and starts crying mid-song. She's good, though, and probably would make it through even without the pity vote.

The judges are sympathetic, and give her a three-way yes. Even Simon gets a little sentimental. Wow, talk about a downer. Even Paula's crying now. Enough to leave the room.

Can we please get a 44-year-old guy dressed as a robot or something? Like, right now?
