rock career of ages?

This MTV article asks if it's reasonable to assume David Cook will be able to sustain a rock career post-AI.

You know, when he has to perform his own material instead of just cover songs.

The prevailing answer is yes, but I'd like to know what you guys think.

Do you think David Cook should fly solo post-AI, or join a rock band? And does anyone out there think he might struggle commercially after his run on the series ends?

(Remembering, of course, that individuals who vote in the reality TV competition aren't always high-volume music consumers, especially in the hard-rock genre.)

I doubt it, as long as he launches good singles, I think he'll be okay. He has consistently topped the contestants in iTunes. He can sell songs, that's for sure.

he has shown that he knows music and knows how to make songs rock. he's awesome and i expect nothing less from him post-Idol.

Daughtry has been very successful, I think David Cook can be too, as long as he makes wise career moves. (easier said than done)

Cook may actually be better served if he does not win Idol, then he will have the power to make his own decisons rather than being tied down to an "AI contract"
