biggest. surprise. ever?

Remember, tonight's two-hour results show is the celebrity extravaganza slated to feature performances by acts like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, plus appearances by a whole host of celebrities, including Teri Hatcher, Keira Knightley and the kid who plays Harry Potter.

The part that has the most people talking, however, is an element Seacrest billed last night as "one of the biggest shocks we’ve ever had on American Idol.” Remember that last week, he teased to “a duet you will have to see to believe when two of the biggest stars in musical history come together on our stage.”

This article notes that a lot of people are wondering if those two are the same thing, especially in view of recent Internet rumors that Celine Dion will perform with a virtual Elvis. There's also rumors about a duet between Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson.

Some viewers, meanwhile, are predicting the "biggest shock" will be something separate. Such as:

*An elimination-free week
*Sanjaya's return to the competition
*Nothing

The elimination-free week wouldn't surprise me, especially since the idea of ousting a contestant seems to go against the goodwill inherent in the "Idol Gives Back" concept. Still, it could also dramatically mess up AI's overall schedule, and I can't see the producers going for that.

Thoughts? Guesses?

Let's not kid ourselves. When mention is made of two of the biggest stars in popular music, ever, the decription can only apply to five or six people. That Evis is no longer with us, is neither here not there, as the volume of video footage available of him is, in itselg, mind boggling. As the greatest, most imprtant single artist in history, it better be a duet of him and Celine Dion. Otherwise, why would I be shocked to see two artists singing together, no matter how big they are, is both are alive.

Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson seems unlikely, I know they used to be friends, but I recall that Paul was pretty mad at Jacko when Jacko bought the Beetles portfolio out from under Paul's nose.

Elvis is great but he's dead and it won't REALLY be a duet if he is involved, and as far as Celine being one of the greates music stars, give me a break, she has only had a handful of hit songs, sure she has a nice voice, but she is WAY overrated. I could probably name over a dozzen artists that have had more hits and a stronger impact on music than her.

But, if we are going to play the dead people game, it should be an Elvis + John Lennon duet...LOL

I think if they have half a brain they will stick with living people. Since these two artists are already expected to be present, my bet is on a Celine and Bono duet, deserving of the title of great or not.
