ready, set, idol

A marathon week of AI starts with the performance episode tonight at 8 p.m. on Fox. Singers reportedly will perform inspirational songs, so get your Kleenex ready.

(Even if you're only crying over the fact that a lack of social life has made you resort to cheesy reality TV.)

Wednesday, it's "Idol Gives Back" and Thursday, it's elimination night.

I'll blog tonight's episode as usual. Here are some links to keep you busy in the meantime:

*Rodney Ho from the AJC wrote this article reminding us of Michael Johns' Atlanta ties.

*Do you think it's weird that Carrie Underwood and her ex, Chace Crawford, mutually broke up via text message? I do. Get the full story here.

*Here's an article with a few more details about David Cook's brother's battle with cancer. It also raises some questions about what would happen if an AI contestant was faced with some extreme personal tragedy while competing on the show. What do you think? Would America look unfavorably on, say, a singer who kept competing after the death of an immediate family member?

See you tonight!

Inspirational songs tonight, huh? Sooo... David Archuleta's act won't change a bit, will it?

Yawn.

I'd better not have to sit through "Wind Beneath My Wings."
