cry me a river

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I'm all rested up and ready for another week of AI, although Tuesday may be devoid of incessant criers like last week's Ashley Ferl.

Remember her? I've done some research since her on-air debacle last Tuesday, and I learned this morning she's not a producer plant or Make a Wish recipient. Instead, according to this article from the LA Times, 13-year-old Ashley, who lives in Riverside, Calif., appeared on the show as an afterthought to tickets she received to see the FOX game show "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?"

Apparently, the ticket deal included seats at an AI dress rehearsal. During that rehearsal, Ashley pulled the same crying gig. When producers saw her, they decided to invite her to the real deal. The rest, as they say, is history. Or just really good TV.

When the LA Times reporter interviewed Ashley, she said during the experience she was thinking "this was the coolest thing ever." She also named Sanjaya, Melinda, Gina and Jordin as her favorite AI contestants.

So there you go. Maybe, if we're really lucky, we'll get something equally exciting this week.

Happy Monday.
